About

What is RYPEN

RYPEN is designed for those students who just need a bit of a push and a confidence boost to start achieving their full potential.
During the weekend students are encouraged to: learn to understand themselves and others and manage their relationships, lives, work, and learning more effectively.

RYPEN provides an experience of ideas, problems, and social experiences which will assist them in forming their own values and moral standards and allow them to broaden their horizons culturally, socially and academically. Challenge by choice is an important aspect of the program experience.

Our commitment to

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

As a global network that strives to build a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change, Rotary values diversity and celebrates the contributions of people of all backgrounds, regardless of their age, ethnicity, race, colour, abilities, religion, socioeconomic status, culture, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity.

We wish to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we are hold RYPEN, the Dja Dja Wurrung People of the Kulin Nation, who for tens of thousands of years, sustained healthy communities and wisely managed the resources of these lands. We pay our respects to the Elders, past and present, and welcome the participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as we shape a future in which all thrive. We acknowledge that Aboriginal self-determination is a human right and recognise the hard work of many generations of Aboriginal people.

We are committed to safe and inclusive policies, and services for people from LGBTIQ+ communities and their families.

Typical

RYPEN program

These are some of the typical elements of the RYPEN program, to give you an idea of what to expect.

Yarning Circles

The yarning circle concept is used by many First Nations peoples across the world. It’s a space for active listening and reflection. Yarning Circles are designed to allow everyone to have their say in a safe space without judgement. Each person is encouraged to speak, one at a time, without interruption.

Team challenges

A chance to put the content into practice! You will work with other RYPEN participants to put the content you have learnt into practice through a range of activities which will challenge you and the team to achieve a common goal.

Reflection time

We have a session called “Reflection time” towards the end of the day. It is a session designed to give you the opportunity to think of the day and have the ability to unravel thoughts and apply them to your own life in your own time. Consider how to apply your learning to you, your community or your performance (profession, study or interest).

Guest Speakers

Vocational Service is the essence of Rotary and the foundation from which Rotary began – the application of one’s vocational skills to serve others. We have bought together community leaders and industry professionals to deliver and share content which will help you and your own leadership and professional journey.
